Decentring ELT: teacher associations as agents of change

Abstract In 2018, the A.S. Hornby Educational Trust launched its ‘Decentring ELT’ initiative, with aim of identifying, publicizing, and supporting ways in which English language educators low- middle-income countries work locally collaboratively to develop activities that respond their particular circumstances. This article aims explore notion ‘decentring’ ELT by means a provisional characterization presenting examples carried out teacher associations Africa, Latin America, South Asia involve: localization/devolution; encouragement success-sharing; support for research; investigation members’ needs and/or capabilities; attempts bring about wider change. On basis feedback received so far on our decentring, we end highlighting some this notion, outside it, may need be not only extended but also problematized critiqued.
